What colour are offshore turbines?

The upper section of offshore wind turbines are normally painted a light grey colour. It may be required, for the purposes of navigational safety, to have the lower sections of offshore turbines painted yellow to make the turbines easily visible to shipping.

Studies have suggested that as turbines are generally viewed wholly or largely against the sky, light grey is the most appropriate colour as it is closest to that of the lower part of the sky under the most frequent weather conditions.
